What is Business?
Society does not exist without some form of an economy and businesses shape the economic system. Business Studies teaches how businesses distribute goods and services to satisfy a public need or demand. Business Studies also helps to develop an appreciation that business behaviour can be influenced by a range of stakeholders including consumers, competitors and the government. The course will also will help you to make more informed decisions about how and why people start businesses and why you too might also consider becoming an entrepreneur.

What will I study?
The course will cover all key aspects of Business Studies including finance and accounting, organisational structures, functional areas of businesses, public and private sector constraints, non-for-profit organisations, raising finance, marketing concepts, stakeholder conflict, human resources, event planning and health and safety, legislation, economic, political, social and technological constraints on businesses, GDPR, corporate social responsibility and business ethics. The course also develops evaluative skills and the curriculum will encourage students to develop their entrepreneurial skills.

How will I be assessed?
External examinations take place at the end of Year 12 and 13. There will also be an additional 3 elements of coursework to complete that are externally assessed.

Who should study Business?
Business Studies is an excellent choice for ambitious students who have an interest in entrepreneurship, accountancy, how businesses shape the economy or those who have a special interest such as human resources, marketing or banking and finance. It will enable students to see the world through the lens of a small or medium enterprise.  Students will also develop strong organisational and communication skills.
