Curriculum Outreach
Raynes Park High School has a rich and varied Outreach Programme, which has delivered the following events:
Community Celebration & Tennis Court Opening
Earlier this year we welcomed Tim Henman, Stephen Hammond (Wimbledon MP) and Ross Garrod (Merton Councillor) to RPHS to officially open our brand new tennis courts. The event also welcomed 500 of our local primary school pupils who took part in the numerous outreach programmes we offer here at RPHS.
Tim Henman OBE says: “My Foundation is delighted to have worked with Raynes Park High School over the course of the last six years. Thanks to the wonderful generosity of my Foundation's supporters we have been able to enrich the curriculum offer at the School. Today is very special as we are opening the new courts funded jointly by The Tim Henman Foundation and the School. Our focus will now be on supporting curriculum enrichment through a funded tennis programme. We are also grateful to collaborate with the Tasso Foundation who have helped fund today’s festival.
“It is great to see the growth in the partnerships and programmes linked with the school that all embrace my Foundation's philosophy of “one life, many opportunities. My congratulations and thanks to all who have made this possible."
Merton Primary Boys Football Championships
The Merton School Sports Partnership Boys Football Championship brought 300 local pupils to Tooting and Mitcham FC to compete to be crowned Borough champions. Our Sports Leaders were requested by MSSP to support this event with our Level 3 Sports Leaders and Fulham Football and Education students being excellent role models. The Leaders were tasked with refereeing the 7-a-side games, with several of the boys stepping in to help coach some teams. Fraser from MSSP stated that “the group performed extremely well, particularly in challenging situations.” Harry was a standout performer. Having recently completed his Level 2 referee qualification, he was requested to take charge of the finals due to his excellent decision making and calmness in all situations. Well done, Harry - we might have the making of an international referee on our hands!
Merton Primary SEND Panathlon Festival
Panathlon is a national charity which, every year, gives young people with disabilities and special educational needs the opportunity to take part in competitive sport. In partnership with MSSP we supported the event with our fantastic Sports Leaders at the AELTC Community Tennis Centre in Raynes Park. This event was an excellent opportunity for our Leaders to develop their skills and consider how activities would need to be adapted for those with additional needs. David from Panathlon commented “the leaders were great today; they were incredibly supportive of all the pupils who attended and made the event run so smoothly”. A special well done has to go out to Arbon, who was extremely engaging in his activity, making the activity fun and accessible for all who took part.
Green Lane Primary Forces Workshop
Green Lane Primary Year 5s has recently been studying forces and mechanisms as part of their Science curriculum. We were delighted to invite them to our science labs to engage in a workshop with Mr Willams (Head of KS3 Science). They were quizzed on their prior knowledge and stretched their understanding. They finally put those theories to the test with a creative task on how forces act in buoyancy. We also received some wonderful feedback from Green Lane, with the teacher saying, "The children were very engaged with the lesson and found it really fun. They were able to consolidate their learning and also learn some new language."
She also said that a number of pupils on the way back to school were saying "That was the best morning ever!" We look forward to the second Year 5 class joining us in December to take part in the workshop.
Aragon Primary School Humanities week
We were very happy to invite Aragon Primary’s Year 6 pupils to take part in a workshop as part of their Humanities week. The focus was sustainability and the students were tasked with creating models of their own sustainable houses. It was a wonderful morning that gave the pupils an insight into a topic they will be covering in class.
Merton Primary Inclusive Dodgeball Festival
This was the first of our support of the Merton School Sport Partnership events for the 2024-25 academic year. The partnership between RPHS and MSSP has been growing over the last few years and they have requested our Sports Leaders support more and more as the years go on. This time out was the Dodgeball Festival where 14 Merton Primary Schools competed in a round robin format. The Sports Leaders were fantastic, with Nick from MSSP commenting “they have been brilliant today, they are so engaging and supportive of the younger pupils “. Special mention must go to Favor, who was excellent throughout and built up a fantastic supportive relationship with the younger students.
Our sports leaders have been super busy throughout the year supporting events for the Merton School Sport Partnership. They are a real asset to the school and have done themselves proud in what they have accomplished in this academic year.
“Thank you so much to all of your sports leaders this year, they have been amazing! They have continued to get better each year we have worked with them. I already know to count on them for MSSP events next year.” - Nicola, MSSP
past events
Aragon Primary and Burlington Junior School STEM weeks
It was a great pleasure to support two of our local primary school during their theme weeks, which had been focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). There year 4 and 5 pupils had the opportunity to join our Science and DT departments in a very special set of lessons. The brief was structures and the RPHS team delivered some amazing lessons. In science they focused on the very smallest structures, looking at atoms, elements and mixtures, to give a greater insight in to how the world is created. In DT they built their own totem poles and Battled against each other to see who had built the strongest structure.
'The amount of support Mr Oldridge has given us over the last year has been incredible. We have been able to use your wonderful facilities, your staff have taught our children, we have seen your productions and to cap it all, some of your sports leaders came to help us with our Sports Day. Phenomenal.' - Headteacher, Aragon Primary
Merton School Sports Partnership
Our sports leaders have been super busy throughout the year supporting events for the Merton School Sport Partnership. They are a real asset to the school and have done themselves proud in what they have accomplished in this academic year.
During the summer term we had some amazing events to support. The first was with the Y9 leaders who supported the Merton Primary Tennis competition under the dome at the new AELTC Community Tennis Centre. Our leaders did a fantastic job in organising the games, scoring and umpiring.
“Thank you so much to all of your sports leaders this year, they have been amazing! They have continued to get better each year we have worked with them. I already know to count on them for MSSP events next year.” - Nicola, MSSP
Burlington Junior School Fitness Week
During the summer term we offered our support to the Burlington Fitness week. During this week Burlington Junior School pupils were involved in all things, sport, health and fitness. With quizzes, Inter-house competitions and culminating with sports day.
"The students that came for our sports day were brilliant- what fantastic ambassadors for your school! Having your students there makes such a difference to the running of the whole thing and we thought the quality of their delivery etc. was really really good. Please thank them all again from us."
Sublime Science
It was fantastic to welcome Sublime Science back to RPHS to deliver fun and interactive science workshops. We invited local schools Green Lanes, Joseph Hood and Hatfeild to participate in this unique and exciting opportunity alongside some of our own year 7s. Lots of whizz, whoosh, bang and fizz with explanations kept students engaged and wanting more. It was a great experience for all and showed science in a fun and creative way.
Fulham Foundation Premier League Inspires
The FFC premier league inspires programme students have been working away at developing their social action project. Daisy D, Daisy F, Nancy and Rose were the group who had shown the best initiative of the RPHS cohort and were invited to present their idea to a select panel at Craven Cottege, where the winners would be given the money to run their project. They left no stone unturned in their preparations, even delivering their presentation to Mr Oldridge on the tube! They performed amazingly and were commended for their presentation skills. Unfortunately, they missed out on first place by the smallest of margins but were still awarded the prize money to run their mental health project with local primary school pupils. A massive well done to the girls
