Borough Athletics 2023
Last Thursday and Friday a number of our students were selected to represent Raynes Park High School in the first and second stage of the Borough Athletics event, which took place at the David Weir Leisure Centre, in Carshalton.
Thursday evening kicked off the start of the Borough Athletics competition with high jump and javelin. The students did fantastically well even in such rainy and slippery conditions.
Medals Won on Thursday 11th May:
A massive congratulation goes to George who has been using his Tim Henman scholarship for one-on-one high jump coaching sessions, after having only started high jump last year!
Friday's competition brought us even more triumphs to add to the previous day's winnings! Again, even in such awful weather, with an extremely wet track, our students did us proud. A huge congratulation goes to all students who were involved.
A notable mention must go to Mirna in Year 10, she could not have been a better ambassador for the school during the event. She was cheering on every student across all year groups, making an effort to find out their name, so she could shout it as they ran past. She was always the first one to go over to any student who needed an extra boost of confidence or comfort after their race. Her attitude was spot on all day, and she also ran an amazing 2nd leg in the girl's relay!
Secondly, a huge congratulations to Adam in Year 10, his technique was amazing and his incredible hard work and determination from training outside of school paid off. He took Silver in the 400m (narrowly missing out on 1st place). He then had no break, and had to compete in the 200m straight after and still won a Bronze medal!
We achieved a total medal haul of 24 - two more than last year, we couldn’t be prouder!
