Sport iN tHE COMMUNITY
As part of our Outreach programme, Raynes Park High School has taken part in the following sporting events with local schools and our community partners:
Y12 Sports Leaders
The Year 12 Sports Leaders supported the Girl Tag Festival hosted at Old Wimbledonians. The girls were the leads on six skill development activities in the morning and built up their confidence and expertise to be refereeing the full tag games by the afternoon. They were excellent motivators throughout the day and received amazing feedback from MSSP staff, teachers and the pupils. They did such a good job there that we asked to support the Football Festival the following week.
They were also invited to be a part of London Broncos opening home game of the Super League season, and were chosen to be the flag bearers as part of the team walked out on to the pitch.
Our Sports Leaders had a very busy Summer Term supporting Burlington, Aragon and Green Lane primary schools for their Sports Day.
“They were so kind and helpful and such great characters. Our children really enjoyed having young people there to help and encourage them.” - Green Lane Primary
'I’d like to extend our deepest gratitude to all your wonderful students who helped at the Aragon Sports Days. Each of them was polite, kind and so supportive to the children. They really cheered them on and gave them a boost of confidence when needed. They treated both the children and staff with respect and would be welcome back any time.' - Aragon Primary
'I wanted to write to say how wonderful your students were who came to help at sports day here at Burlington. They were a credit to your school and many, many parents commented on how encouraging, polite and helpful they were while supporting the junior children in their races. The day was a total success.' - Burlington Primary
Merton School Sports Partnership Tennis Competition
Our sports leaders have been super busy throughout the year supporting events for the Merton School Sport partnership. They are a real asset to the school and have done themselves proud in what they have accomplished in this academic year, I know Miss McCourt and I are so grateful for all the time and commitment they have shown.
During the summer term we had some amazing events to support. The first was with the Y9 leaders who supported the Merton Primary Tennis competition under the dome at the new AELTC Community Tennis Centre. Our leaders did a fantastic job in organising the games, scoring and umpiring.
'The leaders this year have again been fantastic, officiating and supporting at a range of events. It's so nice for the primary school children to have local young people to inspire them at the festivals and competitions and in turn such a good opportunity for the Raynes Park students to develop their confidence and leadership.' - Merton School Sport Partnership
Boys' Football Festival
Our Fulham FC boys raised the bar when hosting the RPHS boy’s football festival, passing on some excellent footballing expertise to the boys of Burlington, Green Lane, Joseph Hood and Sacred Heart. It was a wonderful afternoon led by the Football Education boys who ran a carousel of football related activities and then refereed the games as each school played each other in mini games. It was great to see the primary pupils learning from their older counter parts, who knows they might follow in their footsteps. It was also another fantastic display from the sports leaders with another opportunity to develop their coaching and leadership skills.
LTA Youth Programme CPD
We were very pleased to host the LTA Youth Programme CPD for local Primary teachers at RPHS. It was an informative and well run course with local LTA tutor Emma Wells. We are looking forward to hosting many more CPD and tennis opportunities at RPHS, with a Community Tennis Programme in the pipeline for this year.
Merton Sport Partnership Hockey Championship
It was our pleasure to support the Merton Sport Partnership and Wimbledon Club Hockey, in delivering their annual Hockey Championships. It was a fantastic turn out with 14 schools in attendance, playing some high level hockey on our fantastic hockey pitch. Congratulations to Poplar Primary who were worthy winners after a tense penalty shootout in the final!
Fulham Foundation Premier League Inspires
The Year 9 Premier League Inspires group was invited to take part in a workshop delivered by Fulham’s Mental Wellbeing Practitioners. It was an excellent opportunity for our students to engage in the mental health, wellbeing and bullying topic, with the group giving some very mature responses to challenging issues. They even had the opportunity to meet first team player Calvin Bassey who gave an insight into the mind-set of a professional footballer.
Girls Football Festival
Our Fulham FC girls stepped up again to host the RPHS girls football festival in the autumn, passing on some footballing expertise to the girls of Aragon, Burlington and Sacred Heart. It was a wonderful afternoon led by the Football Education girls who ran a carousel of football related activities and then refereed the games as each school played each other in mini games. It was great to see the primary pupils learning from their older counterparts. It was also another fantastic display from the sports leaders with another opportunity to develop their leadership skills.
